When I was a child, my sister was the avid reader. She could read
quietly for hours at a time, I envied her. She had the ability to be able to sit still for
that long to read the day away -- but I just could never do that I was active as a child. I read
of course, but not like she did. Later; in high school; I began to
write in my spare time. Poems, fan fiction - that sort of thing. I loved
it. Over the years that too has waxed and waned until more recently; in
the last couple of years; when I began writing during my downtime
again. Ideas for stories began to gel into place, a chance meeting and
friendship with someone who happens to be a book editor and her
encouragement got me back into writing and; by proxy; reading as much as
my sister back in the day.
Also during this series of
fortuitous events; as luck would have it; in the last year I have
discovered and become friends with an author who I really enjoy reading
and fast became one of my favourites. Her name is
Leisa Rayven.
She's bright, clever and talented. Her bubbly, forthright, hysterically
funny and cheerfulness demeanor is always a joy. These traits cross
over into her writing which is something I LOVE about her books. To be honest; for me; she went from a random selection that I picked up in Chapters one
afternoon, to one of my favorite writers in a matter of hours. Then of course, I
sought her out on social media and from there, a friendship was born. And a fangirl/stalker but hey... whatever. ;)
But seriously, on
a personal level, her positive encouragement towards my own endeavors
in writing have been endless. I will forever appreciate those words of
kindness, guidance and encouragement she has given me. She too has been
working on her new book, her now fifth book which is being released April 30th and I have (hopefully)
encouraged her to the best of my ability while she has gone through this
writing process.
Yesterday, she blessed me with an
Advanced Reader's Copy of her baby. Her blood, sweat, lack of sleep and tears entitled
"Mister Romance". It's no secret in my home I would buy a copy of the
phone book written in Swahili (which I don't even read) if she wrote it. So to say I was eager,
excited and flattered to get an early copy and my hands on this book, is
the understatement of the year. And then when the author herself; one
of the people I've come to seriously admire and like very much not just
as a writer but as a friend; offered to send me a copy eleven days
before release... (Like I'm going to say "No! No! I couldn't
possibly!!" Of course not... this is ME we are talking about!

I plunged full force into reading, sequestering
myself away behind the closed doors of my bedroom. I managed to get about
half way through reading the book this afternoon before my family wanted
some social time.
Social time??! WTH! I
live with them and they
expect me to have dinner with them too? The nerve! How rude! By then I
was already so well engrossed, I didn't
want to spend time with my
family, I wanted to read and spend time with my new book boyfriend! Reluctantly, it ended up that I put my tablet
to the side, and went to eat dinner with my family.
"Max Riley is the man of your dreams. Or at least he will be... for a price."
To
say that I 'liked' this book would be putting it mildly. I've read all
(now five) of Leisa Rayven's books, and I think this one may be my
favorite so far. To say Max Riley is 'the man of your dreams' may be an
understatement. He's charming on so many levels, and in so many ways -
you can't help but gush just that little bit over him. You can't help
but keep reading, hoping, wishing, and wondering if Max is really Prince
Charming and not just a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Eden
Tate is fantastic as a strong willed, funny as hell, in charge of her
own orgasm, but damaged lead female. Many times I caught myself laughing
out loud at relatable situations and statements. Things either I could
see myself saying, thinking or feeling if I were or when I have been in
similar situations. I can easily see myself as her in how she thinks
about herself on a personal and or physical level. She's very realistic, relatable
and well written. I find I like that about lead female characters, I
want to be able to see myself saying or reacting the same way they do
within a situation. I want them to be like me, or like someone I know.
And Eden most definitely excels in that department.
Bottom
line is, I loved this book. And let me let you in on a little secret: I
think Max Riley may have reached a new level of "book boyfriend" that I
didn't know was possible. I'm not going to spoil the book for you,
except to say I absolutely
loved this book. Yes, perhaps I'm
bias, but I try not to be. I've tried my best to step outside of my
fangirl-ing/friendship and see this book as it is and be objective in my opinion. The non-fangirl side of me
loves it just as much as the one that is jumping up and down squee-ing
like it's just managed to score front row tickets to Hamilton from
Lin-Manuel Miranda himself.
It's a journey and an experience you will
have to take just like I did. Do yourself a favor, and
get yourself a copy of Leisa Raven's "Mister Romance" on April 30
(release day). Let Max Riley make you believe in love, romance and the
possibility of happily ever after.
